In our efforts to promote ITIP to the media, we had a successful first-ever feature in “Pilipinas Ngayon Na!” or PNN; a global Teleradyo and Famas Presidential Awardee in DWIZ882AM and on iZTV. The famous show is hosted by the power couple, Former Deputy Malacañang Press Undersecretary, Mr. Robert Torres Rivera, and respectable, inspirational author, Radio & Online Host of the Year, and Asia Pacific Luminaire Awardee, Ms. Elyza Rivera a.k.a, Lady Elyza.
Pilipinas Ngayon Na! is a positive and wholesome program that tackles relevant issues on Business, Health, Wellness of the Body & Soul, Arts & Entertainment, Education, Technology, and Lifestyle. It airs every Monday and Wednesday, from 1 to 2 pm, on DWIZ882AM, DWIZ FB page, YouTube channel, and free Digital TV on channels 23 and 32. Now it can also be watched on Skycable, Channel 72.
Distinguished guests interviewed on the show last May 31 were our past ITIP Chairperson (Head of IT Department, PhillLife Financial Assurance Corp), longest-running member and officer of 20 years, Ma. Efiginia “Geney” Hufana, together with current ITIP Chairperson (Chief Technology Officer, PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies) with 27 years experience in the IT industry, Allan August P. Malig.
Geney initially talked about how companies can benefit from being a member of the organization, in which she emphasized that the main purpose of ITIP is to, “Help companies be at the forefront of their business” in the Digital Age, especially when selling products and services online has become the norm. We do this by sharing the right knowledge and the latest trends in technology with all members.
Her statements inspired questions from the audience about Cybersecurity that our representatives endeavored to answer, such as counterattacking identity theft through being wary of where and who you divulge your personal info, not clicking suspicious links or giving away your OTP, and turning off your camera in your laptops & mobile phones.
Allan added that awareness is highly important. If you receive anything that is too good to be true, most likely, it is. If it came from well-known telcos, banks, etc., he recommended contacting the company directly to make sure the e-mail or text message is legitimate.
The topic of Cybersecurity was so endearing that one of the listeners who hails from Sydney, AU, shared how one of their employees experienced a security breach (someone hacked into his laptop) upon connecting to a public Wi-Fi in Bali.
It behooved Allan to advise everyone in practicing two of the basic “security hygienes”: One, refrain from doing online transactions (like with banks) when using public Wi-Fi unless you’re using a VPN. Two, make sure that your laptop doesn’t have any malware since this is where viruses come from that can hack your system.
It was amazing to hear how interested the audience was regarding these topics, proving how much we can educate companies and how valuable our work is in the IT industry.
Another thing of value is the passion of our past and current ITIP BOARD MEMBERS towards our organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility, as do all of us members, noting that every year, we hold national conferences to support one of our CSR initiatives in local governments along with partnering with known NGOs to provide scholarships for underprivileged children and donate a portion of our earnings for their welfare.
Some of these initiatives are: supporting World Vision for more than 15 years, assisting 10 children yearly to school, and donating a substantial amount to the National Children's Hospital while also bringing toys, children’s books, and school materials. More on this on page ???
Our feature in PNN has been a fun, rewarding, and God-ordained experience–from being approached by my churchmate Cielo Enriquez who happens to be the PNN AD Campaign Manager and Guest Coordinator, to the behind-the-scenes moments in the studio where the company name of Allan and Ms. Geney were switched that I had to go to the technical booth room to correct it ASAP, and most of all, got to know the Hosts & Team after.
We are absolutely grateful to our PNN partners for this incredible opportunity. It enabled us greater visibility in the IT community, both to the public and private sectors, motivating us to continue being of service to our nation through our Vision & Mission as a non-profit organization. God bless you and stay tuned for Part 2!
